Kollektiv Quotidien was established in 2017 by a group of students, artists, researchers, and theorists of the MA-programme “Spatial Strategies” at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, Germany. Its first inception was the organisation of the symposium “Alltageintagaus – A Lefebvre Symposium About the Right to the City”, which took place at MehringHof and Club Miami in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Leading up to the event, the group applied Henri Lefebvre’s theories to research and artistic interventions at the Dragoner Areal, a contested urban space where Club Miami was located.
The symposium revolved around the relevance of Lefebvre’s theories on space, urbanisation, and revolution for artistic processes and urban politics. Questions around the production, appropriation, and representation of space were addressed by scholars Klaus Ronneberger (Frankfurt), Christian Schmid (Zürich) and Christoph Schäfer (Hamburg), followed by artistic interventions from students and a vibrant panel discussion with Lisa Vollmer and Ulrike Hamann from the initiatives “Stadt von Unten” and “Kotti&Co”.
Following the symposium, the group - many of whose members were involved in different forms of activism - recognised the importance of gathering, disseminating, and further developing insights from the event in the form of a book. Kollektiv Quotidien was formed. As an editorial team, collective members Victoria Claire Anderson, Elisa T. Bertuzzo, Johanna Gilje, Lin Nowicki, Uroš Pajović and Daniele Tognozzi worked collaboratively to produce Lefebvre for Activists, published by adocs in 2020.
In 2024, the realisation that intervening dynamics, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have drastically transformed long-held understandings and practices of activism led members of the collective to converge again, turning specifically to environmental activism.
With the continued support of adocs publishing house and collaboration with the Spore Initiative, Elisa T. Bertuzzo, Prerna Bishnoi, Johanna Gilje, and Uroš Pajović constitute the current editorial team.
